Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! Another year that is almost gone. For 2015, I wish you inspiration, health and strength. No work is possible without that. I wish you surprises. We all need encounters and situations that turn our lives upside down even if we do not believe that we need them and regret we cannot do what we want with our lives. Unforeseen circumstances generate art. Almost everything can generate art, by the way, if you look at it with new eyes. I wish you peace. And I wish we artists can work concretely for peace. We already do, of course, as art is something that unites, where so many matters divide humans. But I hope we can find a way to do it more actively. I wish you perseverance, in the creation process, in the let’s-break-the-rules process, in life. Because it is always too cold or too hot to paint, if you think about it ;-) I wish you a very happy New Year!

A critical look at our society

Image
If you are in the area of Malaga those days, you need to visit the drawings exhibition "trece tontas, un@ arrob@ y treinta pingüinos"  of my colleague Félix Martín in the centre of Torremolinos.  I am not sure how to translate this intriguing title, as both languages are foreign to me and I am not sure I did understand all the play on words around it - "Thirteen silly women, one at sign and thirty penguins", maybe. The drawings are a pretext to look critically at our society and way of life - a gentle provocation. The official opening was yesterday night, but you have one more month time to go. Where ? Sede de IU, Ramal de Manantiales, esquina Río Mesa, 29620 Torremolinos (Spain)  When ? Until mid-January , Monday-Thursday (except holidays), 6 p.m - 8 p.m.  You may want to call before you go : 952 05 29 65

Salina La Tapa

Image
Colder days make it possible to enjoy unique saline landscapes where there is absolutely no shadow. Time to stay between blue and blue, listening to the birds, looking at the water and the sky. Here, the Salina La Tapa , near the town of El Puerto de Santa María (Andalusia, Spain).

Creating

Image
Creating, I mostly do not think. At all. And I do not know exactly what is going on in my head. When I can remember it, I am not able to find any human words to describe these feelings or thoughts. Essence On the sea Downtown

Looking for trees - finding a cow

Image
The day was dull but warm for the season, 21ºC (69.8ºF) at least. I was looking for some interesting tropical plants or trees to capture with my camera on the hills nearby and could not find any. A small ruin attracted my attention. Next to it, this elegant cow. Cow along our path

Parts of the truth

Image
How often do we apprehend parts of reality thinking we know everything about it? One reality - two parts of the truth.  (For those of you who live in or near Torremolinos (Spain), you will find this little farm building   near the Hospital Marítimo (Los Álamos). Yes, it is one and the same building!)

Not the beginning of the end

Image
I thought that, in real life,  churches were becoming gourmet destinations, cultural institutions, but not the other way round... Therefore, I was shocked to read that the Café Eclipse in Valladolid (Spain), where painting exhibitions and other cultural events were regularly held, is going to close at the end of October, as it was sold by the owner to become part of the Adventist church next to it. I wish my colleague Miguel Asensio will find another suitable place very soon so that his Café Eclipse can be born again! I refuse to believe that this is the end. No es el principio del fin. Creating. Enjoying.

My former home

Image
My former home - the city where I have been living for 10 years - is not my home any longer. I thought I knew every stone, but the stones do not recognize me. The houses are still there, but with different names displayed on the bells. The streets are still there, but they speak a different language. Athens

Image
I lost my heart in Athens , where I have just attended the IAPTI Second International Conference for Translators and Interpreters ( #iapti 2014 ).  The Greek capital is much more than its historical heritage (of course, the monuments are beautiful). Athens is diversity, and art. Vibrant and inspiring. There is so much to see - one who tasted it  has to come back one day.

Bloody summer

Image
Sometimes, I wish I could work and live in an ivory tower. But I cannot. I am part of this world. For  thousands innocent civilians in the Middle East and Eastern Ukraine, this summer was the last one.  I wish I could turn back time to bring them back to life. Bloody summer I Bloody summer II

Water: between land and water

Image
Walking between land and water , you should not be afraid of rain and storms. And of the silence, only punctuated by waves and birds. A silence that you can feel on your skin. Salt. Sand. Boats. Fishing nets.  Civilization is never far, but Nature is here the only ruler - and artist.
