Does the country we live in influence our artistic voice?

Image
I am just wondering if and how the country we live in influences our artistic voice.  I never had been reflecting about this before, but a couple of weeks ago, a friend told me: "Looking at your paintings, one can see that you live in Spain!"  I began to ask myself how my work would look like if I had stayed in Germany, or perhaps moved to Argentina, Finland or China. As I already experienced that I am not completely the same person according to the language I am speaking, I probably would not be 100% the same visual artist if I had stayed in my country. Interesting thought. Sun Rain in town Dancing under the stars Red Sea Japanese cherry blossom Eclipse of the sun Summer

Necessity, the mother of invention

KUNSTWERKT Collage Recyclage 2013

Like 180 other artists, I took part to a collage competition organized by KUNSTWERKT (Ghent, Belgium) in March 2013. Unfortunately, Fear of the future  is not among the 20 selected works. But, never mind! I had a lot of fun with it.  Good that I was not asked to choose the best collages: there are so many valuable creations among them! ;-) You can now find an online exhibition of all collages on the page  KUNSTWERKT Collage Recyclage   (in Dutch - click on " Foto's van alle ingezonden collages " at the bottom), or here as slide show .  The 20 selected collages can be viewed at the Verbeke Foundation in Kemzeke (Belgium) from May 4 to 12 2013.
