Chani's Creative Space

Since yesterday, the Plaza Costa del Sol in Torremolinos (Spain), now pedestrian zone, is an open-air museum, with Elena Laverón's exhibition "Poesía multiforme' , 11 huge sculptures that will stay there until April 30. I like the idea of bringing art to the street. Art should not be food for the elite that can be consumed only in special galleries and cultural centres. It should become part of daily life, with the possibility to interact with it, reflect on it, and enjoy!

Today, January 19, a Christmas present sent to me on December 18 reached my post box safely, one month and a day later! No idea where it has been all this time (it could be interesting if it could talk), but I felt so happy to be able to thank the giver again (this time, for something that did arrive and not just for knowing that he was so good to make me a pleasure that did not arrive). From December 23 to 31 2015, I will be participating in a photography exhibition in Cuenca (Castile-La Mancha, Spain).  This solidary exhibition called "Refugiados sin refugios" ('Refugees without refuge') will be in favour of NGO  Proactiva Open arms , Spanish volunteers who are at the moment active on Lesbos and Chios (Greece) to save many lives (have a look at their Facebook page in Spanish, English and Greek). Looking back over this year, I feel that I advanced a lot by experimenting new things. Through the Belgian organization Kunstwerkt, I took part to the project "One Paper A Day", and because I chose to draw on location where I live, I created figurative works. As the project came to an end after one month and a half and 45 drawings, I could not give up drawing spots and buildings, even if I still prefer to create abstract works, because I feel totally free and "more myself".  I worked less with acrylic on canvas this year: this summer has been particularly hot, my studio was an oven.  On the other hand, I learnt to work with SketchBook Express in order to perfect and colour scanned drawings I first had performed on paper with black Indian ink. The idea came from a translator friend who said to me one day: "Why don't you put at least a little bit of colour in your Andalusian scenes?"
