Garden gate

Image
Like animals in a cage, we see nature around us but are still not allowed to leave our town (how long will this last? The situation gets more an more absurd every day: from Monday on, we will be allowed to meet with 10 friends at a bar terrace, but may still not walk in the nature alone or with the person you live with.)  Of course, there are charming places in town as well, you only have to open your eyes. Yesterday, I found this abandoned garden gate. Have you already thought about how animals must feel living in a cage day after day? If you feel bad at the moment because you have lost your freedom, at least, you have the power to open the cage of your parrot or canary bird and to give them the very best! Warm evenings

Lockdown restrictions have been relaxed a bit since last Monday; we are now allowed to walk within a one-km radius from our homes (no more than two people together living under the same roof) and without distance restrictions for physical exercise (individually, only within our own municipality), between 6 to 10 a.m. or 8 to 11 p.m.  Fortunately, we live near the beach, so that we can now breathe some fresh air (I think restrictions are so unfair for people living in ugly districts. Parks are still closed. This make no sense, but that's the way it is).  Yesterday, it was windy warm but windy, the perfect weather for wave surfers. Enjoy!

Exit

Soon, we will be allowed to walk in the nature again. Hopefully. The nature is the only reason why I am here. It is almost summer; the spring has gone for ever, unnoticed by humans. Exit

Living without freedom

Later, maybe, we will be able to read a lot about the impact of lockdown on mental health and economy. When the toxic measures that are now in force are relaxed, the newspapers will feed us with other statistics - about anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicide attempts, unemployment, short-time work, domestic violence, human right violations...  Once is sure: no one will be the same again. Myself, I have been reflecting a lot about democracy, basic values and purpose in life. Some priorities have changed. The only thing I know is that I will be following my conscience, as always. But my future may be a different one, at another place, as I had imagined two months ago. Living without freedom

What kind of society do we want?

Image
When the lock-down is over, we will still be under shock for weeks. We will not get our old life back; social distancing is here to stay for a while.  But was our old life "normal"? With so much destructive consumerism and environmental destruction?  I hope we will not lose what we have won during those difficult days. Creativity, solidarity.  I hope urban planners will design greener cities. I hope better housing concepts will be developed for the elderly and more money be spent on health care, education and research. I hope governments will anticipate instead of panicking again. The kind of town I do not want

Silent storm

Image
It is a long time I haven't posted... I would like to get rid of the chaos in my heart and heart. I am never sure about the right words to use but at the moment, even less.  After corona, nothing will be as before for many of us, but it may be the chance for a new beginning. At the moment, my feelings are not fear or panic, but rather anger and hope. Silent storm

And after corona?

Image
To cheer me up, I am starting thinking about the time after corona... At the moment, we need to obey rules and try to help others. Every one of us has questions, theories about the virus, what is wrong or right, should have been done or avoided. I am not an exception, but I do not want to discuss this now, because only time will tell what was true or not, when it is all over. Unfortunately, one thing is certain: there will be even more rubbish in the nature. I see a lot of latex gloves and masks laying here on the streets, as if people no longer knew how to use rubbish bins. This protection material will end in the sea. But otherwise?  When physicians and nurses are striking and demonstrating, what they regularly do, will we take some action as well to support them, knowing that they are right doing so and that a poor health system also affects us all? Will we understand that it is not enough to vote once every four years to have a working democracy? Or will we be, again,...
